Catalogue Note

After Rembrandt's famous etching of Jan Six (1618-1700), dated 1647. Although Houston titles the sitter in the etching a burgomaster, he didn't become one until 1691. It is actually the moment when Six came back from his Italian Grand Tour (c.1644-6).
