Catalogue Note

Jacques BircklĂ© (1734-1803) was admitted as Master in 1764.
Having first worked as an independent artisan in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, he began working for the Garde Meuble Royal in 1785. With the Revolution these consignments for the Crown ceased although the activities of the workshop continued. It was taken over by his son and remained in operation until 1825.

Bircklé is renowned for his eclectic production ranging from pure Louis XV shapes through to Transitional pieces and very linear Louis XVI furniture.
