a late gothic iron war hammer, probably French 15th / 16th century

the small head with tapering, re-curved spike opposing hammerhead of square cross-section, grip wanting, retaining facetted, squat pommel, in excavated condition; together with another war hammer in Renaissance style, the head mounted with six spikes, the shaft of hexagonal cross-section, struck near the grip of wood with maker's mark
