the seated boy with ankles crossed, his proper right hand raised, his left hand at his knee, both pierced to support an object, right buttock pierced for fastening, the head with rectangular plug, remains of soldering underneath his right foot, on later wood block

Stylistically this figure may be compared to the work of the Vischer family active in Nürnberg from about 1500. Compare with the figure of the tumbling winged putto from the workshop of Peter Vischer the Elder dating to 1508-1510 in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, illustrated in the Gothic and Renaissance Art in Nuremberg exhibition catalogue op.cit. nos. 186 and 250).  This seated boy would originally have formed part or a larger ensemble, possibly a table fountain. Note the fountain figure of a seated putto with an urn of circa 1530 attributed to workshop of Peter Flötner now in a private collection in Germany illustrated in the same exhibition catalogue.
Alternatively a Flemish origin could be suggested, for this compare with statuettes preserved at the Rijksmuseum (op.cit. nos. 67-69)
