Description

  • 133cm. high, 159cm. wide, 65cm. deep; 4ft. 4¼in., 5ft. 2½in., 2ft. 1½in.
with a rectangular top, above five long drawers each with six rectangular marble panels within ripple-cut mouldings including Alabastro Fiorito, Alabastro Rosso del Gebel Oust, Tunisia Breccia Corallina, Velirken (Bilieik) Turkey, Verde Antico, Alabastro Listato di Palombara, Africano Rosso, the stiles with scrolled corbels above metopes, within ripple-cut mouldings on a platform base

Catalogue Note

This rather unusual chest of drawers can be compared with two similar chest of drawers in the Barberini Palace, Rome, formerly in the Museum of Industrial Arts. The aforementioned pair has a writing surface concealed by the drawer front.

This chest of drawers belongs to a group of similar pieces as follows:
-lot 429, sold  by Sotheby's, at the Casino dell'Aurora Pallavicini, Rome, from a Private collection located in Piazza Farnese, Rome, Vol. II, 18th May 2004, reproduced here in fig.1. (E60,000)
-a similar chest of drawers sold as lot 69 in the Marcel Puech Collection, Etude Tajan, Paris, 8th November 1999.
