Many artists have written about the hub for the literati and society that was Café Nuovo  in the Palazzo Ruspoli the nineteenth century. Particular to the establishment was its wealthy owner, the dwarf Bajocco, who was one of the most successful and sociable of hosts. The Nuovo cafe was known for its carnavalesque soirées and lively crowd and was recorded by many artists such as Antoine-Jean-Baptiste Thomas in his album Un an Rome et dans ses Environs of 1823.
