- The Church of SS. Giovanni e Paolo, with the Colleoni Monument, Venice
- oil on canvas
Catalogue Note
The present view is one of the most famous in Venice and was painted with numerous viewpoint variations by all the famous vedutisti. The viewer sees across the Rio dei Mendicati towards the imposing facade of the Dominican church of SS Giovanni e Paolo. On the left, we can see the Ponte del Cavallo, and in the distance, the Scuola San Marco. To the right of the church is the celebrated equestrian statue by Andrea Verrochio of the condottiere Bartolomeo Colleoni.
We are grateful to Charles Beddington for suggesting the attribution to Francesco Zanin upon firsthand inspection.
