Catalogue Note
Also known as Ptiloris Paradiseus, the Paradise Riflebird is endemic to Eastern Australia where it is found in the upper canopies of the subtropical rainforests. As seen here, the males have purplish velvety black upper parts, a deep iridescent green head, black wings, and an iridescent green patch under their gullet. Females are brown with a buff underbelly with black bars across the breast. Their birdcall is a raucous, rasping, yaa-a-a-ss, mostly made by males at breeding times.
