Catalogue Note

Lady Sarah Lousia Broke was the aunt of Sir William Middleton. Married to Captain Philip Broke, R.N., in 1802, their son Sir Nathaniel Broke inherited Shrubland Park from his cousin in 1860. Sir Nathaniel incorporated the Middleton name at the same time to become Sir Nathaniel Broke Middleton.
