Alexander Roos c. 1810-1881

Though these designs were never carried out they represent rare surviving evidence of Alexander Roos's original architectural intentions for Shrubland Park. Possibly trained by Karl Frederick Schinkel, Roos arrived in England in 1835 after a period of study in Italy. Prior to Shrubland Park, Roos worked at Hadzor House, Worcestershire and The Deepdene, Surrey. Dating from the later 1830's until the mid 1840's Roos's designs for Shrubland Park fall between those of J.P. Gandy-Deering and the later campaign of (Sir) Charles Barry.
