Catalogue Note
Thomas Saumarez was a naval officer and the great-nephew of James, first Baron de Saumarez (1757–1836), the son of Captain (afterwards Admiral) Richard Saumarez (d. 1864). The mail ship the SS Teuton predominantly travelled between England and South Africa.
