Catalogue Note

Shetky not only exhibited marine subjects at the Royal Academy throughout his career, but was Professor of Drawing at the Royal Naval Academy Portsmouth for over 25 years. This finely detailed, delicately coloured and highly finished watercolour is a fine example of Shetky's talent for marine draughtsmanship which was so influential to subsequent marine artists. King George IV created Shetky, Marine Painter in Ordinary, and on his death he was suceeded in this position by Sir Oswald Brierly.
