Catalogue Note

During the Crimean War, Brierly accompanied Captain the Hon. Harry Keppel aboard the 101 gun ship, St. Jean d'Acre. His subsequent highly finished battle scenes, such as this one offered for sale here, were very popular back home in England. Many such watercolours were reproduced and can be found in Brierly's publication of 1854 entitled The English and French Fleets in the Baltic.
