Catalogue Note
The prime version is now in the National Gallery, Prague, where it forms the companion to a view of the Colosseum (both reproduced in F. Arisi, Gian Paolo Panini, Rome 1986, pp. 478-9, nos. 503-4, figs. 503 and 504). That depicting the Colosseum is signed and dated 1765. Another version was offered New York, Christie's, 12 January 1996, lot 126 (as by Panini).
