Catalogue Note
The composition is derived, with numerous differences, from a design by Maratta known in two principal versions, both on copper: in the Royal Collection, Windsor Castle and in the Hermitage, St. Petersburg. A related altarpiece, painted in 1659, is in the Church of San Antonio Abate, Anagni.
