Catalogue Note
Charles XII ruled from 1697-1718. In 1708 he invaded Russia, but after a brusing defeat fled to Turkey. Once there he tried to convince the Sultan Ahmed III to wage war with Russia. The Sultan refused and sent an army to Charles's place of residence. He defended his home with a handful of men, but was eventually driven back to his home country.
