Catalogue Note
According to Farrer, the sitter is Henry Middleton, son of William Middleton of Crowfield and his wife Sarah, daughter of Morton Wilkinson of South Carolina. In 1801 he won £20,000 in the state lottery, and helped his elder brother William (see lot 287) with the costs of building Shrubland Park.
