The sitter was the daughter of Thomas Vesey of Hintlesham, Suffolk, and his wife Elizabeth Harvey.  In circa 1737 she married the Rev. John Beaumont of Sproughton who died in 1743.  On 1st June 1744 she married John Vere, and this portrait must have been painted as a commemoration of the marriage.  Her portrait by Thomas Gainsborough hangs at Gainsborough's house.
