Catalogue Note

The sitter was the son of John Acton and his wife, Elizabeth, daughter of John Lambe of Barham, Suffolk.  He married three times.  He married firstly, Mary, daughter of Sir John Rous, of Henham Hall, Suffolk, who died 31st May 1717 (see next lot).  In 1718 he married secondly, Susan, daughter of James Gibson of Ipswich, who died in October 1720.  He married thirdly, Elizabeth, daughter of John Fowle of Brome Hall, Suffolk.  He served as High Sheriff of Suffolk in 1731.
