Catalogue Note
The sitter was the eldest daughter of Paul Bowes of the Temple, London, and his wife, Bridget, daughter of Thomas Sturgess of the Middle Temple, London. On 15th December 1688 she was married at St Bride's to Arthur Bailey, of Mile End, Middlesex. She was the aunt of Philip Broke of Nacton.
