Catalogue Note
The sitter was the daughter of John, Lord Stanhope of Harrington, Vice-Chamberlain of the Royal Household, and his second wife, Margaret, daughter of Henry MacWilliams. She married Robert, Viscount Cholmondeley of Kells in Ireland, who was created Earl of Leinster on 3rd March 1645.
The present work is a reduced version of the three-quarter length portrait owned by the Delamere Trust.
