Catalogue Note

The Guriev Service was designed by the leading craftsmen in the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory including the gilder Bokur.  It was originally known as the Russian Service and was commissioned for the Winter Palace in St Petersburg.  In 1848 it was re-named after Count Dmitri Alexandrovich Guriev, Director of His Majesty's Cabinet during the reign of Alexander I who ordered the service.
