Catalogue Note
Severianin and the Hylaea group angered the St Petersburg literary set as a result of the introduction to this work; “Idite k chortu [Go to hell]”, in which they grouped Symbolists, Ego-Futurists and Acmeists together. The work includes dogmatic poems by Mayakovsky and Severianin, poems of all styles from the Burliuks and Guro, while Kruchenykh provided some fine works including “Mudrost’ v silke [Wisdom in a snare]” exploring his interest in language. Filonov’s illustrations were accused of being pornographic and the work was confiscated by the Committee of the Press. It is thought that very few copies have survived.
