Catalogue Note

This rare catalogue for the Soviet Pavilion at the International Press Exhibition in Cologne in 1928 contains a superb photographic folding panorama designed by Lissitzky and was printed to coincide with the opening of the exhibition. There are photomontages of the layout of the interior and exterior of the Soviet Pavilion as well as the most important installations and exhibition pieces celebrating Soviet publishing achievements.

Lissitzky had been commissioned as the main artist for the Pavilion and under his eye the creation of a revolutionary design was achieved. Architecture, graphic design, typography, photography, and cinematography were all brought together to show the world at large the importance and achievements of the press in post-Revolution Soviet society. Lissitzky's typographic eye created something quite extraordinary and exceptional which is preserved in this remarkable catalogue.
