first edition. Ayn Rand (1905-1982) was a novelist and philosopher. She studied screenwriting in St Petersburg before emigrating to the US in 1926 at the age of 21 and changing her name soon after from Alissa Rozenbaum. She moved to Hollywood from New York and married an American actor in 1929, becoming a US citizen in 1931. Her views were anti-Communist, as her family had suffered under the Bolsheviks, and this little work is a surprising celebration of American film-making of the era.
