Catalogue Note

This work was published in memory of Elena Guro immediately after her death with a note from the publisher praising her work. One of the earliest of the Russian Futurists, her work was softer, less strident and radical in tone, still showing the influence of the earlier Impressionists. There are eighteen of her poems in this volume including “Finlandia” which shows elements of “zaum" language and which allowed Kruchenykh to include her with the Futurists. One of Kruchenykh’s own essays discusses the importance of Futurist writings for the development of language.
