Catalogue Note

Aristarkh Lentulov was part of the Knave of Diamonds group and was also connected with the Hylaean Futurists. "Through his friendship with Kamensky, he was invited in 1919 to make a cover for Reality. Verses (Iav'. Stikhi) for which he produced an elaborate topical design showing workers, factories, and red flags. This anthology brought together a motley group of poets: as well as Kamensky, there was the Futurist sympathiser, Boris Pasternak, the Symbolist Andrei Bely, the independent 'Ruralist' Sergei Esenin, and Riurik Ivnev, Anatoly Mariengof and Vadim Sherchenvich" (Compton (1992), p.18).
