first edition, very rare. This history of the Slavic people of Podolia was another part of Potocki's intended work on the prehistory of the Slavic people. Podolia, situate south-west of the Ukraine and the seat of the Potocki family, has a complicated history. It was conquered by the Turks in 1672, restored to Poland by the treaty of Karlovitz in 1699, then became part of Russia after the partition of Russia in 1793. In 1920 it was returned to Poland, only to be annexed by the U.S.S.R. in 1939 and then made part of the republic of Ukraine in 1945. Like Potocki's other ethnographic studies, this work was printed at the author's expense in very small numbers.
