folio (296 x 188mm.), woodcut initials and headpieces, folding engraved plate containing imperial arms, 8 engraved maps (5 folding), 9 engraved plates (7 folding), contemporary red morocco gilt with the arms of Prince Eugène of Savoy-Carignan, spine gilt in compartments with his device, gilt edges, one plate torn, occasional foxing, quire Hh loose, final plate damaged and repaired with slight loss

Provenance

from the library of prince eugène of savoy-carignan. Prince Eugène (1663-1736) was one of the great generals of the Habsburg Empire, as well as one of the wealthiest noblemen of Europe. His extensive library (c. 15,000 volumes) was sold by his niece in 1738 to the Austrian Emperor and is now in the Österreichische Nationalbibliothek.
