Catalogue Note

"The federation of Russia comprises more than eighty ethnic groups spread across Europe and Asia. The Chukotsk, from the northeast, are relatives of the Inuit people of North America, who live largely in the northern arctic areas around the Bering Sea. These people remain to this day an indigenous group living mostly as they have lived in the past" (Von Laue, p. 244).
