One of Nabokov's nine Russian novels, all written during his time in Berlin between 1922 and 1937, this work was first published in parts in a Parisian journal Sovremennye Zapiski. The hero of Podvig, Martin Edelweiss, is a young romantic Russian emigré who, in an effort to win over the object of his unrequited love, conceives of an heroic plan to make an illegal return to the Soviet Union.
