Catalogue Note

We are grateful to Dr. Hermann Jedding for suggesting a tentative attribution to Johann Melchior Roos on the basis of photographs. It can be compared to the large Animal kingdom of 1729/30 in the Staatlichen Museen, Kassel, which Roos painted for the Landgrafen Carl von Hessen-Kassel, and of which a signed and dated 1728 modello is in the Herzog-Anton-Ulrich-Museum, Braunschweig.
