Catalogue Note
A similar pair of swans, as well as a pair of white models splashed in blue, formerly in the Rous Lench Collection, are illustrated by Leslie B. Grigsby, The Henry H. Weldon Collection, English Pottery 1650-1800, p. 311, no. 171, where the author suggests, on p. 310, that they were most likely adapted from Meissen models designed for the 'Swan Service.'
