flattened oval with detachable cup and screw-on cap, maker's mark only on base of cup; compare also the mark of Elizabeth Oldfield of London.

Catalogue Note

The inscription on one side reads Greamestoun Breweree 15 and on the other Sir John Stuart, Baronet of Castlemilk, Died 18th Jany 1797, Aged 60.

Castlemilk, near Glasgow, was the home of the Stirling Stuarts, who purchased the land in 1460. The castle was demolished in 1969, only the gateway and stables survive amidst a large housing estate.
