Catalogue Note

Peter Young (1749-1813) as Ledlie Irwin Laughlin stated was “a maker of taste, ability and considerable originality” and was “one of the real Masters of American pewter.” For additional information on Young, see Ledlie Irwin Laughlin, Pewter in America: Its Makers and Their Marks, (Barre, MA: Barre Publishers, 1969), pp. 22-23. A nearly identical chalice was owned and illustrated by Laughlin, pl. 242.
