the rims engraved inside and out with a running band of ovals and circles, engraved with later arms and supporters, marked on bases, numbered and with scratch weights 3 14=3 and 4 14 =3.

Francis 7th Baron North and 1st Earl of Guilford, 1704-90, was a patron of George Wickes. Other items by Wickes in the same sale comprised a set of four candlesticks, 1755, lot 153, a soup tureen and cover, 1735, (1 of pair), lot 167, and a pair of candlesticks engraved with the Prince of Wales’ crest, 1731, lot 168.
