Three photographs of James McNeill Whistler, comprising: Whistler with Cape and Cane, platinum print, mounted, signed in ink by Whistler and with his butterfly monogram on the mount; and Whistler with Mortimer Menpes and William Merritt Chase, platinum print, mounted, two of the subjects identified in an unidentified hand in ink on the mount; and a boudoir-sized studio portrait of Whistler by H. S. MENDELSSOHN, albumen print, mounted, the photographer’s credit on the mount and reverse, all c. 1885; together with a view of Cheyne Walk, Battersea Bridge Pier, albumen print, mounted, titled in an unidentified hand in ink on the mount (4 photographs)
Catalogue Note
Whistler with Cape and Cane is contained in a wooden step frame painted white, originally from The Hunterian Art Gallery, University of Glasgow, and possibly used for memorial exhibitions of Whistler's work c. 1904-06.
