Ronnie Hughes b.1965

Born in Belfast, Hughes is perhaps most well known for his more recent work incorporating curvilinear shapes such as coils, rings, and loops with synthetic forms such as pills and tablets into his own abstract style. In contrast, Master Piece is an important early work and was painted in the same year that the artist undertook a one-year residency in New York at the prestigious PS1. His work is now held in many public and corporate collections including both the Irish Arts Councils and the Irish Museum of Modern Art and he was recently awarded the ‘Irish Artist Fellowship’ for a one-month residency at the Vermont Studio Center.
