Catalogue Note

Before moving to Paris in 1971, Collins worked in Connemara for nine months digging ditches and produced a series of Bog pictures such as Bog Country (1970, Coll. Arts Council of Ireland). The palette for the series, evident in the present work, largely consists of yellows and browns which creates an earthy atmosphere producing a strong element of light from within the composition.
