Catalogue Note
Bordered by three theaters—the Bolshoi, the Maly, and the Russian Academic Youth theaters—Theater Square was, and still is, a vibrant area of Moscow. Rodchenko made a series of images of the square from different vantage points, and at different times of year, in an attempt to create a complete picture of Russian life in this creative center (cf. Galassi, Aleksandr Rodchenko, pp. 117 and 255).
