Condition
The painting is warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration. The support consists of two horizontal panels which are flat and cradeled and stable. The paint surface, which is covered in a thick layer of dirt and discoloured varnish, is in good condition although slightly worn in the background. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals scattered minor retouchings particularly to the join and strenthening to the staffage and darker tones of the figures.
Offered in an ebonised wood frame in good condition.
