The figure of the bald man is a common motif used by Paolini on several occasions in his oeuvre, for example in his Pollaiolo listed by Maccari as in a private collection, Pistoia (see P.G. Maccari, Pietro Paolini, pittore lucchese, Lucca 1987, cat. no. 54, p. 134, reproduced p. 136).
