Attributed to Pietro Mera Brussels circa 1575 - 1645 Venice

We are grateful to Drs Luuk Pijl for suggesting a tentative attribution for this painting to Pietro Mera, based on photographs.  He compares it with Mera's Landscape with the Journey to Emmaus in the Musei Civici, Padua (see Fiamminghi: Arte fiamminga e olandese del Seicento nella Repubblica Veneta, catalogue of the exhibition, Padua, Palazzo della Ragione, 1990, no. 17, reproduced).  Though the Padua picture is a large work on canvas, there are stylistic similarities in the landscape, foliage and figures that suggest a possible attribution for the present work to Mera.
