Catalogue Note

The present painting appears to be an autograph replica of a painting by Conca (see Sebastiano Conca, exhibition catalogue, Gaeta, 1981, p. 312, cat. no. 114b, reproduced p. 313). That painting was one of a pair, its pendant representing King David, which Giancarlo Sestieri considers to be from relatively late in the artist's career.
