Catalogue Note

We are grateful to Marie-Pierre Petkowska who, on the basis of photographs, confirms the present painting to be by Demachy and will be including it in her forthcoming catalogue raisonné on the artist.  She also notes that there is some participation by Demachy's studio, most probably his daughter, Louise Victoire.

This painting relates to another work by Demachy in the Musée de la Revolution Française, Vizille.  Petkowska suggest that the Vizille picture may be a modello on which our painting is based.
