Catalogue Note
The present work is a presumed portrait of a member of the Roattier family who were famous coin and medal makers, working in the European Royal Courts of London, Antwerp and Madrid in the 17th and 18th centuries. The young sitter holds either a medal or a coin in one hand and an engraving tool in the other suggesting his trade. There is an old label on the reverse that includes the Roattier family name.
