Catalogue Note

Ariadne is shown receiving the circlet of nine stars which Bacchus added to the crown bestowed on his bride by Venus. Daniels (see Literature) suggested a dating of around 1705-10, during the artist's English period, and Scarpa concurs with this, citing a comparison with the Flora and Zephyr in the Pinacoteca Martini, Ca' Rezzonico, Venice (see Scarpa, under Literature, p. 319, cat. no. 502).
