Condition
The painting is slightly less contrasted in tone than the catalogue illustration. The panel is flat and uncradled. The paint surface, which is covered in a fine layer of dirt and discoloured varnish is in quite good condition, although there is some slightly lifting to the lower half which has resulted in minor scattered paint losses (visible in the catalogue illustration). INspection under ultraviolet light reveals some minor strengthening to some of the shadows
