The upper half of this composition may be compared to that of A bearded old man with a cap and a golden chain by Govaert Flinck (1615-1660), present whereabouts are unknown (see W. Sumowski, Die Gemälde der Rembrandt-Schüler, vol. VI, Landau/Pfalz, p. 3708, no. 2279b, reproduced p. 3869).
