Literature

J. de Maere and M. Wabbes, Illustrated Dictionairy of 17th Century Flemish Painters, Brussels 1994, vol. II, p. 309 (as François van Craesbeeck);

Catalogue Note

The present composition was erroneously recorded by Jan de Meare and W. Kwabbes as by François van Craesbeeck (before 1650-after 1679) (see Literature). Cleaning revealed the head dress of the central female figure.

We are grateful to Drs. Karolien de Clippel for now tentatively confirming the attribution to Joos van Craesbeeck on the basis of a digital image.
